What are Heelers?
Australian Cattle Dogs, also known as Blue and Red Heelers, are high energy, fun loving work dogs. Ideal for ranchers who need to herd livestock, they are also loyal family dogs and guardians.
In the 1800’s Australians bred Dingo-blue merle Collies to Dalmatians and Black and Tan Kelpies. The result was a breed identical to the Dingo in appearance and build with peculiar markings. Heelers can be blue or red (can be in mottled or speckled), with or without black, blue or tan markings. The breed was recognized by the AKC in 1980 under the Herding Group category.
Heelers range in size from 17-20 inches at the shoulder.
